BLACKSMITH CLASSES

All classes are held at The Barn / Blacksmith Shop, 921 School Street in Lisle
The Museums at Lisle Station Park host several blacksmith classes throughout the year. If you would like to register for any of the following classes, select the register online button associated with the program. To register in-person, stop by the Lisle Recreation Center located at 1925 Ohio Street, Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm and register with the help of our front desk staff.

Saturday, May 30   |   3 sessions

Unleash your inner blacksmith as you craft a bottle opener guided by the museum's blacksmiths. After your time at the forge, celebrate your hardwork with a beer from a local brewery and a soft pretzel.

Our blacksmiths will supply materials and safety equipment. It is suggested that you provide your own gloves and safety glasses for personal fit and comfort, though we will provide standard gloves and safety glasses. You must wear leather shoes and clothing made of natural fibers; long sleeves are suggested.

Learn the processes of upsetting, drawing a taper, fullering, twisting, and scrolling in our Blacksmith Shop. Bring home your own hand-forged hook from this 3-hour class!

Basic Elements of Blacksmithing I

Learn the processes of upsetting, drawing a taper, fullering, twisting and scrolling in our Blacksmith Shop. Bring home your own handmade project from this 3-hour class!

Basic Elements of Blacksmithing II

This class will further develop your skills in the processes of forging to a specific dimension, fullering, punching holes, texturing, scrolling, and drawing a taper in our Blacksmith Shop. Bring home your own handmade project!

PREREQUISITE: Basic Elements of Blacksmithing I or significant experience in blacksmithing.

Basic Elements of Blacksmithing III

This two evening class will further develop your skills in the processes of fire management, 'S' scrolling, fishtail ends, right angle bend, riveting, forging to dimension, and forging to match an existing piece in our Blacksmith Shop. Bring home your own handmade project from this two-evening class!

PREREQUISITE: Basic Elements of Blacksmithing II or significant experience in blacksmithing.

Cancellation Note

Requests for cancellation received during open registration, and up to a week prior to the session, are eligible for a full refund. Cancellation requests received with less than a week's notice are not guaranteed a refund.

Missed classes are non-transferrable and not eligble for refunds. Make-up classes will not be offered. Please call us at 630.968.0499, if you believe you are going to be late or miss class.
